Arwen 18 Months Post Op

Wonderful news! Arwen just had chest xrays, and her lungs are still clear! No signs of metastatic spreading!

We are beyond happy with these results. Doing periodic checks on her lungs can be stressful, not knowing what the results will be. But if the results are good, I feel like we can relax a little, and breathe a little easier. Our time may still be limited with her, but I know I get at least a little more time.

We feel so lucky that Arwen is doing so well since her osteosarcoma diagnosis.

Our plan is to continue doing what we have been doing. That means daily physical therapy exercises, a mostly homemade diet with no red meat or dairy and lots of veggies, regular K9 Medicinal supplements, fish oil, lots of walks, and lots of love and as little stress as possible. We look forward to every extra day we get with our sweet girl.

Much love to everyone who is going through a tough time, whether it be with a cancer diagnosis or an amputation or both.

  1. RIGHT ON ARWEN! We are jumping up and down with joy here, so happy to see you lovin’ more snowy adventures and rolling right on into spring. YEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!

Did you say homemade diet? We would love to hear about your menu so we can share it in the Tripawds Nutrition blog! ‘Cause whatever you are eating, it’s working! Yipeeeeeee!!!!

Thank you for taking time out of the day to come and let us know how you and your people are doing. Arwen, you inspire this entire community, and we are cheering you on for many, many more good times with your peeps. Keep on rockin!

    1. Thank you for the warm wishes, as always! We appreciate it!

So the homemade diet we give Arwen is fairly simple. She gets 3 meals a day.

First meal: Pure Vita kibble (duck, salmon or turkey) with a Phycox glucosamine treat, and 2 K9 Medicinal tablets.

Second meal: Steamed veggies with occasional fruit and 1 serving of eggs, poultry or fish and 2 K9 Medicinal tablets. (Sprinkled with a little turmeric, nutritional yeast, or calcium powder. Occasionally flaxseed and nuts or seeds, like pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.)

Third meal: Steamed veggies with occasional fruit and 1 serving of eggs, poultry or fish and 3 K9 Medicinal tablets. (Sprinkled with a little turmeric, nutritional yeast, or calcium powder. Occasionally flaxseed and nuts or seeds, like pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.)

Daily snack: 1 sardine with Wellactin Fish Oil.

Daily: Treats for physical therapy exercises. Treats are either poultry based or fish based or plant based, like Wild Earth treats, or dehydrated fish.

Arwen’s Veggies are usually a mix of some of the following: broccoli, red or orange bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, purple cabbage, cauliflower, kale. Every once in a while we will add asparagus or sweet potato. If we give her fruit it’s usually some chopped apples or chopped pear.
Her eggs comes from a local friend, and we mix up serving them scrambled, fried and hard boiled. If we scramble or fry them we do so in coconut oil.
Her fish is either salmon, sardines or kippers.
We usually buy her chicken and salmon already cooked, but we cook her ground turkey. (My husband and I are plant based only, so it’s nice to not have to cook all of her meat.)

Thank you for the continued support!

      Heather
